Ben TSIANG

Co-founder, SINA / Chairman, CNEX

Ben TSIANG graduated from Mechanical Engineering Department of National Taiwan University, and received master’s degree in mechanical engineering from Stanford University, specialized in Human-Computer Interface (HCI).

Ben TSIANG co-founded Sina.com (Nasdaq: SINA) with two Stanford senior classmates in 1995 in Silicon Valley. He served as Vice President of global products, in charge of worldwide product planning & media alliance. In year 2000 mandated as General Manager of SINA Taiwan branch. After two years, his duty extended to East China market. In 2003, Ben TSIANG moved to Beijing and started the business unit SINA Mobile.

After 12 years with SINA, Ben Tsiang decided to switch gear and established CNEX in 2006. CNEX, a social enterprise devoted to documentary film production and promotion. The mission is making impact for Chinese society through capturing the factual stories that deserve and nurturing media/visual literacy for generations ahead. CNEX works with independent filmmakers to produce documentaries, which have won awards at prominent film festivals such as Venice Film Festival, Cinéma du réel, and Golden Horse Awards. In addition, CNEX holds documentary film festivals and organizes world-acclaimed doc summit CCDF (CNEX Chinese Doc Forum) to make collaborative connections between Chinese and international leading documentary institutes, e.g. Sundance, IDFA, Tokyo Docs, etc. In 2017, Ben Tsiang was invited to be the member of Academy and will be the jury member of Oscar Documentary Branch.

Ben TSIANG mentors various Internet companies in Greater China. He also is angel investor for startups.
