「台湾」と聞くと皆さんは何を思い浮かべますか？美味しい台湾グルメや夜市、ノスタルジックな街 九份ジブリ千と千尋の神隠しのモデルになったともいわれる街 九份、日本と台湾の歴史上の深いつながり、半導体産業、TSMCの日本（熊本）進出 等々、色々あると思いますが、スタートアップについて思い浮かべる方は少ないのではないでしょうか？ 実は皆さんが思われている以上に、台湾のスタートアップエコシステムはアクティブです。毎年多くの企業がIPOしており、日本に進出するスタートアップも年々増えています。また、台湾VCから資金調達する日本のスタートアップも出てきております。そんな台湾におけるスタートアップエコシステムの最新動向、日台クロスボーダー投資のリアルについて、台湾独立系VC Darwin Venturesの創業パートナー Simon Fang、日本代表 今野 寿昭よりお話させて頂きます。また、実際にDarwin Venturesより資金調達された、東北大学発スタートアップ ボールウェーブ様と、日本発サイバーセキュリティカンパニー SpiderLabs様、台湾スタートアップに出資されたAccord Ventures様をお招きし、経験談を語って頂きます。

What comes to mind when you hear the word "Taiwan"? Delicious Taiwanese food, night markets, the nostalgic city of Jiufen, the deep historical ties between Japan and Taiwan, the semiconductor industry, TSMC's expansion into Japan (Kumamoto), and many other things may come to mind, but few people may think of start-ups. In fact, Taiwan's startup ecosystem is more active than you may think. Many companies go IPO every year, and the number of startups entering the Japanese market is increasing every year. Also, some Japanese startups are raising funds from Taiwanese VC firms. Simon Fang, founding partner of Darwin Ventures, an independent Taiwanese VC firm, and Kazuaki Konno, Japan representative, will talk about the latest trends in the Taiwanese startup ecosystem and the reality of cross-border investment between Japan and Taiwan. In addition, Ballwave, a startup from Tohoku University, SpiderLabs, a cyber security company from Japan, who have actually raised funds from Darwin Ventures, and Accord Ventures, who have invested in a Taiwanese startup will be invited to share their testimony.
In addition, there will be a networking session with other attendees and our company members.

1996年スタンフォード大学材料工学博士。テキサス・インスツルメンツ、United Microelectronic Corporation（UMC）のチーフ・セールス・オフィサー、アーリーステージのベンチャーファンドのアジアテックベンチャーの台北オフィス統括パートナーを経て、2008年8月、FangとYaoting Wang博士が共同でDarwin Venture Management, Inc.を設立。現在までに、6つのベンチャーファンドを運営し、50社以上の新興企業に投資。
Simon Fang received MS and PhD degrees in Materials Science and Engineering from Stanford University in 1996. After graduating from Stanford, Fang joined Texas Instruments. In 1999, Fang joined United Microelectronic Corporation (UMC) R&D Division in Hsin-Chu, Taiwan. In 2002, he started UMC’s New Business Development Division. In 2003, Fang was transferred to oversee UMC’s US Sales Office. Later Fang became Chief Sales Officer of UMC. In 2007, Fang joined AsiaTech Venture as the Partner to head Taipei office. In August 2008, Fang and Dr. Yaoting Wang co-founded Darwin Venture Management, Inc. Up to now, Darwin has managed six venture funds and invested more than 50 startup companies.

2003年東北大学大学院工学研究科修了。日産自動車にてエンジニアとしてガソリンエンジン性能開発を担当。その後Boston Consulting Groupにて6年間ほど新規事業立ち上げプロジェクトを中心にマネジメントコンサルティングに従事。電動バイクベンチャーのテラモーターズ、ドワンゴ（N高等学校）を経て、2023年7月にDarwin Venturesに参加。
Konno received MS in Mechanical Engineering from Tohoku University. Konno started his career as an R&D Engineer in the Powertrain Engineering Division at Nissan Motors. He then joined the Boston Consulting Group, where he helped a major Japanese telecom company launch a new mobile phone service etc. Konno then joined mobility startup Terra Motors Corporation, where he led a wide range of operations including sales, product development, technology development, warehouse management, and customer relations. He has also led the creation of a high school - N High School - as a part of dwango, taking charge of its online learning system, content development, service planning, promotional work, etc.
